Reputation is Quest Item in Raft.

Summary

The Trading Posts sell items in tiers and to purchase items in all tiers, your reputation has to be increased by selling Rare Fish at the Trading Post.

It requires 300 reputation to reach tier 2 at the Trading Post. Each tier 1 fish caught grants 10 reputation, so 30 fish are required. 4 bait can be purchased for 1 Trash Cube, so assuming no more than 2 of the casts are missed, it requires 8 trash cubes worth of tier 1 bait to reach tier 2. Note that can given Trading Post will have only 5 of each tier of bait in stock at a time, so this requires finding at least 2 Trading Post.

Tier 3 requires an additional 2700 reputation, for 3000 total. Tier 2 fish grant 100 reputation each, requiring 27 fish, or another 7 Trash Cubes (and 2 Trading Posts). As all tiers of bait cost the same (1 Trash Cube per 4), lower-tier bait should not be purchased once the next tier has been unlocked, and only as much bait is as required to reach the next tier should be purchased.
