Metal Detector is a Tool in Raft.

Summary[ | ]

Learned from the Blueprint: Metal Detector, which is found on Caravan Island.

With the Metal Detector, the player can search Islands for buried treasure. These yield a variety of materials like ores, Planks, Scrap, as well as rarer items like Tiki Pieces, Developer Paintings, Cassette Tapes and Titanium Ore. The Metal Detector is activated by holding left click, and indicates the distance to the dig site by turning on a series of colored lights ranging from red to green, as well as beeping faster the closer the player gets. The lights indicate distance to the target; red means the player is within range of a treasure, but far away, yellow is medium range, and green means close. When standing on the exact location, the final green light will be lit and the beeping will turn into a flat tone.

The actual treasure is spawned into the game when the Metal Detector indicates so, and not before. Therefore, a player cannot get lucky and randomly dig out treasure. Digging on the exact spot of a treasure before it has been located by the Metal Detector will not yield anything before the Metal Detector has been used on the spot.

A small island has one buried treasure, and a large island can have up to three buried treasure, the island the Vasagatan is beached on has 1 buried treasure, Balboa Island can have up to 6 buried treasures, Caravan Island has 3 buried treasure, Evergreen, Desert and Arctic islands can have buried treasure, and Temperance does not have any buried treasure.

The Metal Detector has a durability indicator just like other items in Raft. Its durability is only depleted while actively using the item and it is in detection range (i.e. at least one indicator light is lit). Once fully depleted, the Metal Detector breaks and a new Metal Detector must be crafted.

Loot[ | ]

There are four types of treasure that can be dug out of the ground while Treasure Hunting (see page for drop chances). Three of them visually indicate the value of the found treasure, ranging from poor to high, and the last is a Tiki Piece.
